  Missions

Image MCPC seeks to follow Christ's commandment (John 15:12-13) that we are to love each other as He has loved us, through participation in and support of mission ministries. Our intent is to help those who are truly needy, whether as a result of lifelong circumstances or catastrophic events. MCPC missions support local, national, and global programs, some of them administrated by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and others chosen by MCPC leadership.

MCPC strongly urges the members of its congregation to become directly involved in hands-on missions work. Examples of such endeavors include construction work done on Habitat for Humanity houses, maintenance and repair work performed on Rebuilding Together Colorado Springs projects for the needy, maintenance and repair work on homes of the infirm in the Monument area, the Food and Personal Hygiene Items Drive for San Luis Valley migrant workers, the Tri-Lakes Christmas Tree Gifts Drive for needy children, and the Christmas Coat and Mitten-Tree Drive for underprivileged children. Among other programs, MCPC supports the local Tri-Lakes Cares organization with financial aid and leadership involvement.

We have two mission trees in the Great Room this Advent.  One tree has 30 tags for the boys living at the nearby Griffith Center in Larkspur.  Most of these boys will be staying there for Christmas and will appreciate receiving a gift showing someone cares about them. Place your unwrapped gift with the tag attached by Sunday Dec. 16th.  Let’s all pray that these boys will receive God’s greatest gift, His son, Jesus Christ, as their Lord and Savior.

Image The “Mitten Tree” in the Great Room is for the La Puente Mission in the San Luis Valley. On Sunday Dec 2nd, it received its first trimmings of scarves and gloves from a birthday girl. She requested them in lieu of gifts for her at a birthday party her friends hosted for her. Won’t several children be happy and warm! You can continue to trim the tree with warm clothing from head to toe including new or nearly new coats until Christmas Eve. Matt Kaip will deliver all the items to La Puente right after Christmas.

During November and December each year, the Missions Ministry Team has the joy of sending out year end gift checks from the 10% of our church budget allocated for missions.  These additional gifts have been sent to each of the missionaries we support and local ministries, national and worldwide missions.  Missions do matter! Thank you, in the name of Jesus.
